Currently available driver assistance systems acquire the environment situation through one or a few sensors, for example, radar for adaptive speed controls, ultrasonic array for parking assist systems, etc. Due to the ever increasing degree of automation in driver assistance in the future, however, the number and type of sensors used is continuously increasing. As a result of this, the fusion of sensor data is becoming more and more important.
