The new book "Automated Driving - Safer and More Efficient Future Driving" is published now by Springer Verlag. The book includes articles about important technological bricks to drive forward automated driving. BASELABS contributed two articles about 360° environment perception and data fusion, which is essential for the safety and reliability of automated driving.
The first article "The Role of Multisensor Environmental Perception for Automated Driving" by Dr. Robin Schubert focuses on the environmental model as a key component of automated vehicles. It is the crucial connection between the sensors of an automated vehicle and its driving decisions. "I do hope that the article will - by spreading this critical knowledge - contribute to a faster deployment of automated vehicles on our roads." highlights Dr. Schubert the importance of the article. For the fast development of complex data fusion algorithms and environment models for autonomous driving BASELABS offers the software BASELABS Create.
The second chapter "Challenges for Automated Cooperative Driving: The AutoNet2030 Approach" by Dr. Marcus Obst and further co-authors of the AutoNet consortium describes the concepts and methodology of AutoNet2030 to contribute to a cost-optimized and widely deployable automated driving technology.
"AutoNet2030 aims to investigate and demonstrate the potential of cooperative automated driving. The idea is to improve traffic efficiency and safety by explicit coordination of vehicles and requires numerous adoptions and innovations to existing technologies. In the chapter the technical approach as well as the key algorithms of the AutoNet2030 system are presented. This includes techniques such as cooperative control, extensions to V2V communications with focus on coordination as well as 360 environmental modelling with accurate GNSS positioning." explaines Dr. Obst the main topics of the article. The AutoNet2030 project was finished with the final demonstration on 27 October 2016 at the AstaZero Proving Ground in Sweden. Further information about AutoNet2030
